Alvin Goerzen

Alvin W. Goerzen, 82, Goessel, died March 19, 2005, at Bethesda Home.

Born June 17, 1922, in Goessel, he was the son of Jake Goerzen and Sarah (Schroeder) Goerzen. On June 8, 1945, he married Martha Friesen at Goessel. She preceded him in death.

He was a member of Tabor Mennonite Church, former member of Goessel Lions Club, and served on Sand Creek Watershed Board for many years. He was a lifelong Goessel-area resident, a farmer, and a sheet metal worker.

Survivors include sons, Ron and wife Susan of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Les and wife Cynthia of rural Goessel; daughters, Eileen and husband Bruce Schmidt of rural Canton and Beth and husband Wes Regehr of Hesston; brothers, Milton and Willis, both of rural Newton; sister, Alice Funk of rural Newton; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Wednesday at Tabor Church near Goessel with Rev. Corey Miller officiating. Burial at Tabor Cemetery preceded the memorial service.

A memorial fund has been established at Bethesda Home.
