American Legion awards nine scholarships

Hillsboro American Legion announced the winners of its annual scholarship awards at a banquet Sunday at Legion Post 366.

The $250 scholarships are sponsored by Sons of the American Legion Squadron 366, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 366, and American Legion Post 366.

Students receiving awards from Hillsboro High School include Danielle Johnson who will attend Fort Hays State University, Ryan Janzen who will attend Pratt Community College, and Danielle Kelley who will attend Baker University.

Goessel High School student Michael Jost, was awarded a scholarship, and will attend Hutchinson Community College.

Students receiving awards from Marion High School include Sarah Davidson who will attend University of Notre Dame, Kevin Waner who will attend Flint Hills Technical School, and Tomi McLinden who will attend Butler County Community College.

Centre High School students who were awarded scholarships include Kristin Mueller who attends Kansas State University and Laura Klenda who will attend Hutchinson Community College.

Applicants for the scholarship were required to write a 75-word essay, send in two letters of recommendation, and submit a list of school, community, and extra-curricular activities.
