Andrew Bina to represent golfers at state

Hillsboro High School golfer Andrew Bina is headed for state competition next week.

Bina took the tenth highest individual score at regional competition on Monday, which was held in Marion. Teams from Allen-Northern Heights, Southeast of Saline, Minneapolis, St. John's Military Academy, Cheney, Halstead, and Hesston were assigned to the regional.

According to state golf regulations, the top two teams to finish at regionals advance to state, as do the top five finishers. Since the top two teams were Cheney and Hesston, and 10 out of the top 18 players attend those schools, the remaining eight qualified, since many of them had tie scores.

Cheney's Nick Richmond was the best golfer of the day, finishing with a 75 — which was five better than the next-highest finisher, Taylor Dunham of Hesston.

For Hillsboro, Bina shot a 93, which tied him with players from Marion and Minneapolis.

Trojan Billy Winegarner shot a 95, while Randy Klassen shot a 96, Derek Hamm shot a 104, Lance Bartel shot a 114, and Ricky Johnson shot a 136.

The 3A state competition will be held Tuesday at the Salina Municipal Golf Course.
