Making the transition from doubles to singles Sept. 20 didn't seem to bother Hillsboro High School tennis player Lora Andrews.
Playing as the Trojans number two single, Andrews went 3-0 at the Collegiate invitational, including an 8-6 victory in the finals match.
"I was extremely pleased with how Laura finished the match," head coach Lynn Wiebe said. "She played aggressively, making tough shots at the right time."
As a team the Trojans finished fourth. Along with Andrews, number one singles player Amanda Faber took fourth, Hagen and Wiebe took sixth in the number one doubles, and Audrey Wienbrenner and Lauren Just took sixth in the number two doubles.
Andrews was at it again Thursday at the Hillsboro girls' tennis invitational. Playing as the number two single, she won all four matches and took first place once again.
In number one singles play, Faber defeated Just in the semi-finals but took second after falling 8-1 in the finals match.
Hillsboro took second in number one doubles play, and fourth in number two doubles. Overall the girls finished tied for first with Wichita Independent.
"We are definitely starting to get stronger in both our shot selection and the mental part of the game," Wiebe said.
TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS
To conclude its busy week the team participated Saturday in the tournament of champions.
The doubles team of Faber and Andrews won its first two matches before falling into the loser's bracket. There the pair lost its first match to fall into eighth place.
The tournament included 32 doubles teams.
