Area residents attend Schneider reunion

A reunion of the descendants of Fred and Mary Schneider was held Sunday at St. Paul Parish hall in Herington. Tampa people attending were Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Tom and Lori Moldenhauer, and Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna and several of Anna's friends.

Sunday guests of Helen Schwartzman included John and Pat Schwartzman of Salina, Wayne and Marita Schwartzman and Helen Jean McGonigle of Wichita, Larry Parsons of Mount Hope, Eleanor Murphy, and Martha Melcher. All enjoyed dinner at the café and cake and ice cream at Helen's home in the afternoon in celebration of John's and Pat's September birthdays.

Helen Benson of Raytown, Mo., was a Saturday and Sunday overnight guest of Adeline Bernhardt. Leona Kleiber accompanied them Saturday to Marion where they met Carl and Kathy Hubbard of Wellington. All attended Art in the Park at Marion and the Hillsboro Arts and Crafts Fair.

Anna Weber was honored Saturday evening with a party in celebration of her 10th birthday. Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu and James were hosts. The event had a Hawaiian theme with guests dressed in island garb and Anna presented a lei to each one. The barbecue was presented like a luau. Guests included Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Tom and Lori Moldenhauer, Burma Hanschu and friend Lewis, Doris Sly and friend Stan, Jim and Marilyn Anderson, Paul and Edna Backhus, Marianne Wyatt, Phillip and James, Kirk Sly, Kent Sly, Alysha, Taylor, Kaitelyn, and friend Amanda.

Jacob Krause, Monte Kohman, Ben Krause, Haleigh Owens, Samantha Lanini, Carrie Carlson, Jesse and Magret Perry, Jessica and Becky, Lori Dornbush and Makenzie, Mikayla Antoszyk, Makenzie Deines, Madison Harmon, Sloan Siegrist, Ryan Dougherty, and Dillon Whitehair. Several of the girls were Anna's overnight guests.

Greg Sklenar and Greg Stafford of Wichita and Valerie Hampton of Hillsboro were Sunday guests of Lois Sklenar.

Gary and Carole Spohn took Georgia Spohn to Kingfisher's Inn near Marion Sunday in celebration of her birthday. In the evening Steve Spohn of Hope joined them for birthday cake at Gary and Carole's home.

Adeline Bernhardt visited Milda Krauter Sunday afternoon at Marion Manor in Marion. They enjoyed root beer floats with all the residents.

Tillie Hein, Eleanor Murphy, Martha Melcher, and Tom and Dee Duggan attended a card party Sunday evening at Herington.

Connie Thompson and Taylor of Abilene took Lucille Kerbs out for dinner Saturday.

A group of women enjoyed dinner Thursday in Hillsboro in celebration of the September birthdays of Leona Kleiber and Lorene Kleiber. Others present were Catherine Hajek, Bonnie Crandall, Adeline Bernhardt, Dee Duggan, Helen Costello, Tillie Hein, Shirley Hamm, Beryl Steiner, and Eleanor Herbel.

Russ Kerbs took Reuben and Lucille Kerbs out for breakfast Thursday morning in celebration of their wedding anniversary.

Gary and Carole Spohn and Georgia Spohn met Steve Spohn of Hope in Junction City Thursday evening for supper out in celebration of Steve's birthday.

Andrea and Nicholas Kleiber were supper guests Wednesday of their grandmother, Leona Kleiber.

Sunflower Senior Citizens met Sept. 14 at the senior center for a potluck dinner, business meeting, and card bingo. Those present included Adeline Bernhardt, Jim and Mary Clemmer, Helen Costello, Bonnie Crandall, Magdalen Dvorak, Dee and Tom Duggan, Tillie Hein, Margaret Jirak, Leona Kleiber, Martha Melcher, Eleanor Murphy, Frank Patton, Carole Spohn, Jane Vajnar, and Ruby Vinduska. The hostesses, Ruby and Jane, decorated the hall with Ruby's collection of owls. The group made plans for an outing to the Garden of Eden Oct. 7 at Lucas. Reuben and Lucille Kerbs attended the Kansas State Fair Sept. 14 in Hutchinson. On the way home they enjoyed supper out in McPherson to celebrate their 52nd wedding anniversary.

Leona Kleiber accompanied Lynn Kleiber and Nicholas Sept. 14 to Eastmoor United Methodist Church in Marion to attend Boy Scout awards night where Nicholas received five awards. Refreshments were served.

Rustyn Kerbs was a supper and evening guest Sept. 13 of his grandparents, Reuben and Lucille Kerbs.

Because of a scheduling change for Tabor College's Learning in Retirement programs, news for the next 10 weeks needs to be submitted by Sunday afternoon. I expect to do calling on Friday, but any additions or changes can be called in Saturday or Sunday. I now have an answering machine, so leave a message if I'm not home.

Carl and Kathy Hubbard of Wellington were dinner and afternoon guests Sunday of Adeline Bernhardt in honor of Grandparents' Day.

Deb Hall and Kaylee of Herington treated Tom and Dee Duggan to dinner out Sunday for Grandparents' Day. The Duggans also received a call from their other grandchild, Adam Hall of Lee's Summit, Mo.

Visitors Sunday evening of Helen Schwartzman were Eleanor Murphy, Martha Melcher, and Jim and Mary Clemmer.

Dinner guests of Reuben and Lucille Kerbs and Russ and Julie Kerbs and Rustyn Sunday at Reuben and Lucille's home were Ashton Kerbs and Jesse Smith of Salina and Reuben Kerbs II and Cristy Cammack of Wichita.

Gary and Carole Spohn and Georgia Spohn attended an ice cream social at the Christian church Sunday evening in Marion.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna, Josh Leach, and Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki attended the Kansas State Fair Sunday in Hutchinson.

Daniel and Melissa Stuchlik and Tanner of Wichita, Becky Routh of Augusta, Cindy Vinduska of Marion, Lynn and Peggy Kleiber and Nicholas, and Leona Kleiber joined other relatives and friends Saturday at the First Evangelical Free Church in Lincoln, Neb., for a 50th wedding anniversary open house in honor of Bob and Phyllis Kenney. Relatives were supper guests of the Kenney family at a restaurant, followed by visiting at Bob and Phyllis' home. On Sunday morning Bob and Phyl, Dana Wendling and Sean, Cindy, Becky, Lynn, Peggy, Nicholas, Daniel, Melissa, Tanner, and Leona enjoyed brunch out.

The incomplete results available at this writing show members of Tampa Triple T's 4-H club excelling at the Kansas State Fair. Julie Rziha received a purple ribbon on her demonstration of how to cut up a chicken; she also earned blues on her skirt and yeast rolls. Kristine Jirak won a purple on her yeast rolls. Shelby Deines, Jessica Deines, and Shaina Makovec won blues in photography. Kristin Mueller took fourth in the state in showmanship for dairy cattle; she also earned blues for two-year-old and three-year-old Holstein cows. Kevin Mueller's Holstein junior two-year-old cow also took blue, and Darren Mueller got a red with a Holstein senior calf. Jackie Klenda won a purple in crocheting. Rustyn Kerbs earned a purple in foods. Amanda Kleiber won a blue in rocketry. Andrea Kleiber received a red in weaving. Jacob Jirak won a participation ribbon for crafts. (Only participation ribbons are awarded in crafts, but only two from each county qualify to participate.) Kristin and Kristine have been chosen to represent Marion County Saturday at the style review.

Debbie and Terry Dody of Branson, Mo., visited her grandmother, Tillie Hein, Sunday morning on their way to the Dody family reunion in Hillsboro. Jim Srajer and Cole joined them.

John and Pat Schwartzman of Salina spent Sunday with his mother, Helen Schwartzman.

Ron and Jody Heath, Danielle and Tyler of Salina, Tom and Bev Reid of Marion County Lake, Mike and Jennifer Jay of Hillsboro, Paul and Edna Backhus, Brad Backhus, Phyllis Mueller, and Rod Mueller attended the Kansas State Fair Sunday in Hutchinson.

Dee Duggan and Adeline Bernhardt joined other Red Hat Ladies at Hope Saturday afternoon to ride a float in the Hope festival parade.

Greg Sklenar of Wichita, Valerie Hampton of Hillsboro, and Lois Sklenar spent the weekend in Springfield, Mo., and attended the Turner family reunion at Turner, Mo. Also attending were Lois' other son, Larry Hampton of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and all of Lois' siblings.

Lucille Kerbs met Connie Thompson and Taylor in Abilene Saturday, and they went out to eat. After running some errands, Lucille stopped at the Thompson home where she got to see Allison Phillips who had arrived home for the weekend from Kansas State University.

Gary and Carole Spohn attended the Hope festival Saturday. Georgia Spohn went over for the parade, where Gary drove his antique tractor.

Members of Future Farmers of America at Centre High School went to Hutchinson Saturday to work in the FFA booth at the state fair. Tampa young people participating were Julie Rziha, Christa Pretz, and Kevin Mueller.

Jack and Sharon Grosse of Peabody and Adeline Bernhardt joined Milda Krauter at Marion Manor Friday evening in Marion for a barbecue supper and street dance with the Alex Stuchlik band providing music.

Evelyn Strecker visited Thursday morning with her sister, Helen Schwartzman.

The Rev. Carl and JoAnn Helm visited Georgia Spohn Thursday afternoon.

Jerry and Katherine Commerford of Emporia and Jolene Ingle of Wichita were recent visitors of Tom and Dee Duggan.

Wayne and Marita Schwartzman of Park City returned home Thursday after spending several days with his mother, Helen Schwartzman.

The Lutheran Women's Missionary League met at the church Wednesday evening. Pastor Clark Davis led the topic and opening and closing devotions. Leona Kleiber was the hostess. Others present included Adeline Bernhardt, Alma Meyer, Edna Backhus, and Betty Mueller.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs went to Salina Wednesday afternoon. After running errands, they met Tim Kerbs for refreshments and visiting.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna, and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki attended the Labor Day festivities at Burdick where James and Nikki marched with the Centre band in the parade.

Georgia Spohn joined Lenora Graham of Florence for the parade and other Labor Day festivities in Florence.

Sara Hanson of Fayetteville, N.C., Daniel and Melissa Stuchlik and Tanner of Wichita, Jill Vinduska and Armando Tarin of Manhattan, Ruby Vinduska, and Leona Kleiber were guests Sept. 5 of Cindy Vinduska of Marion. All enjoyed supper out. Later, Susie Wessel of Kingman joined them for brownies and ice cream.

Guests of Frank and Anna Mae Stika for a barbecue at their home Sept. 5 were Tom and Lori Moldenhauer and Nikki, Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna, and Ryan Dougherty.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs attended a potluck dinner Sept. 5 at the Lehigh City Building in Lehigh. The occasion was the Weyand-Steinle family reunion. The afternoon was spent eating, visiting, and playing games. Also attending were Don and Cecile Penney and Pauline Penney of Topeka.

Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu, and Anna and Tom and Lori Moldenhauer attended a retirement party Sept. 4 for Karen and Mike Mowat at Herington.
