Area students attend scholarship day at Southwestern College, Winfield

Top high school seniors and their families attended Scholarship Day March 11 at Southwestern College, Winfield.

The students interviewed for Southwestern's major scholarships, including three $10,000 premier scholarships awarded each year. The premier scholarships are renewable — up to $40,000 — if the student continues to meet academic criteria.

Jessica Bernhardt, senior at Marion High School, Tyson Heidebrecht, graduate of Marion High School, and Alyssa Carter, senior at Peabody Burns High School, attended the event.

Bernhardt is the daughter of Dennis and Donna Bernhardt of Marion.

Heidebrecht is the son of Scott and Rolana Heidebrecht of Marion.

Carter is the daughter of Bruce and Pam Carter of Peabody.

The day's activities included sessions on financial aid, life after SC, student life for parents, and campus tours. A special session for new students only, led by current SC students, was offered on what it's really like to be a student at Southwestern College.

A luncheon banquet was served at noon in the Roy L. Smith Student Center to students and their families where the students were recognized for their academic scholarships and given a certificate and gift.

Following lunch, select students interviewed for the three premier scholarships: Mastin, Beech, and McNeish.
