Arthur R. Funk

Arthur R. Funk, 93, of Hillsboro died Nov. 2, 2003, at Hillsboro Community Medical Center Long Term Care Unit.

Born Feb. 25, 1910, on a family farm east of Hillsboro, he was the second child born to Jacob F. and Elizabeth (Rempel) Funk.

He attended the Canada Grade School. He was baptized on Aug. 21, 1927, at the Brudertal Mennonite Church by Rev. John Plenert.

On Oct. 15, 1932, he married Katherine Pankratz at Alexanderwohl Church. The couple lived on a farm east of Hillsboro all their married life. She died on April 18, 1991.

He served for many years on the Canada school board and on the Farmer's Equity Union board. He was a trustee and served on the building committee for Brudertal Church. He also was a Sunday school teacher. Later, he was active at Trinity Mennonite Church in Hillsboro and also taught Sunday school there.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, son-in-law, Robert Unruh, sisters, Elma Bartel and Linda Schmidt, and three grandchildren.

Survivors include sons, Nelson and his wife Mary Jane Funk, Kenneth and his wife Bonnie Funk, Norman and his wife Carolan Funk, Jim and his wife Jeanie Funk, and Linferd and his wife Delores Funk; daughter, Edith Unruh; brother Karl and his wife Velma; sisters-in-law, Marie Flaming and Margaret Richert;14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Trinity Mennonite Church with Pastor Tim Kliewer officiating. Burial will be at Haven of Rest Cemetery in rural Hillsboro.

A memorial fund has been established with the church.
