Arthur Unruh
Arthur N. Unruh, 89, of North Newton died Feb. 18, 2002, at home.
Born Dec. 27, 1912, in Newton, he was the son of John S. and Mary (Ewert) Unruh.
He attended Newton High School.
On Aug. 7, 1946, he married Elva Claassen.
He was a member of Grace Hill Mennonite Church, rural Whitewater where he sang in the choir and various quartets and taught Sunday School.
He was a retired farmer and stockman living on the family farm east of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bill Unruh, Frank Unruh, Howard Unruh, John Unruh, Martin Unruh, Robert Unruh, and Ted Unruh; sisters, Linda (Unruh) Unruh, Rose Nickel, Lucille Unruh, and Mary Unruh.
Survivors include his wife of the home; son Dennis Unruh of Fresno, Calif.; daughters, Sondra Mark of Loveland, Colo., and Marilyn Unruh Flaming of Hillsboro; sisters Alvina Hall of Wichita, and Grace Nickel of North Newton; and five grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Hill Mennonite Church with Pastor James Voth officiating. Graveside services and burial will be at 10 a.m. at the church cemetery in rural Whitewater.
Visitation hours will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday. The family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday.
Memorial funds have been established with Hynes Memorial Hospice and Grace Hill Mennonite Church.
