Assistance fund started for accident victim

A fund has been opened at a local bank to help a Hillsboro family struck by tragedy.

The Hillsboro Area Ministerial Association has opened an account at Hillsboro State Bank for the Johan Reimer family. Reimer was involved in a car accident last week in northern Butler County.

Reimer's brother, Jacob Reimer, was a passenger in the van as the two headed west from the Elbing area. The van belonged to Johan Reimer.

His van struck a bridge, which ejected Johan from the car. When sheriff's deputies discovered the accident, he was airlifted to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Jacob was found dead at the scene.

Johan lives north of Hillsboro and works for the Klassen Dairy, said Mike Moran, counselor at Hillsboro Elementary School. Johan and his wife, Elizabeth, have five children — three of whom attend school at HES.

As a result of the accident, Johan broke both ankles and may have a broken hip, Moran said. He may not be able to return to work for several months.

Right now, the family could use monetary donations to cover living expenses for the family while Johan is out of work, Moran said. The family also needs a car, since their van was totaled in the accident.

Donations can be made to the assistance fund at the Hillsboro State Bank. Checks should be made out to the "Reimer Accident Assistance Fund."
