Hillsboro does allow the sale and discharge of fireworks for the 4th of July holiday within the city limits with limitations.
City ordinance 1064 prohibits all sales and use of bottle rockets. The ordinance also states that fireworks are not to be discharged within 20 feet of any residence, dwelling, or on city property without written approval from the city.
To purchase fireworks, you must be over age 16 or accompanied by an adult.
Applications to sell fireworks are made to the City of Hillsboro. This year two licenses were issued. The Boy Scouts will sell fireworks at Hillsboro Municipal Park, and a wholesale fireworks distributor will operate two locations, one in Vogt's Hometown Market parking lot and the other in the empty lot at the corner of D and Birch.
There is no smoking within 50 feet of any fireworks stand or where fireworks are stored.
Legal fireworks sales for the city of Hillsboro are from June 20 through July 5 and legally can be discharged for three days before and on the Fourth of July between 10 a.m. and 11 p.m. Other dates of use are Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.
The city has the right to ban the discharge of fireworks within the city limits due to dry weather.
