Be informed

Marion County voters will have the opportunity to vote on the casino question after all. After approving the referendum mail-in vote in October, Marion County Commission has been criticized for its decision.

Complaints center around the expense of a mail-in election. Cost estimates are running about $9,000-$15,000. Granted, that's a lot of money. But, we'd do well to remember that old adage about spending money to make money.

If this destination casino/resort comes to fruition in Marion County, the return on that $9,000-$15,000 investment would be phenomenal.

Understandably, there are a lot of "ifs" on the table. If the vote passes. If the legislature approves a change in the state constitution. If developers choose Marion County. And so on.

But, here's what we need to remember: the decision has been made. Let's move on. It's up to the voters now.

Proponents and opponents will have their say. They'll use statistics, hold meetings, pass out buttons, and try to garner votes for their sides.

Voters should look at the question with an open mind. Consider the facts. Use your head, not your heart, to make an educated, informed decision.
