Bebermeyer takes first at league forensics

BMembers of the Hillsboro High School forensics team competed at the MCAA league forensics tournament held April 7 at Lyons.

Hillsboro placed fourth with Lyons winning first, Sterling second and Ellinwood third.

"Our league is one of the toughest in the state," coach Terry Bebermeyer said. "Most of the students winning in our league do very well at state."

In the speaking events, under informative category, Allison Kunkel placed second and Emily Bebermeyer placed fourth.

In the interpretative events, under prose, Adrien Bebermeyer place first and Kunkel fifth; in poetry, Dana Suderman placed sixth.

In the acting events, under serious solo, Grant Anderson placed fourth.

Several team members will compete at regionals to be held Saturday at East High School in Wichita.

Members will also compete in their last tournament on Tuesday at Southeast of Saline High School.

According to coach Bebermeyer, this will be the last tournament for those members of the team to qualify for the state championships.

He explained that forensics state championships and state festivals are different. Team members must place first or second in any state qualifying meet throughout the year in order to compete in the state championships.

Regionals are for those students wanting to qualify for the state festival. At the festivals, students receive I through IV ratings.

Team members are not allowed to enter both competitions and they must qualify to compete in the state championships, which will be held at the same time and place.
