Beef 'n Bucks pays off for Hillsboro man

Thursday, February 12, Jim May of Hillsboro won $10,000 with a Beef 'n' Bucks scratch ticket he bought from the Ampride in Marion.

On the way to claim the prize, May suffered a heart attack.

"We got as far as Junction City," he said. Fortunately, friends were driving him to Topeka.

This was May's second heart attack in the past two years, and he is still waiting to be released by his doctors to go back to work.

"Mostly I paid off a bunch of bills," said May about his winnings. "I still had some from my mother's funeral."

May, who buys tickets regularly, got the scratch ticket because of the chance in a second drawing. If you send in your losing ticket, you're entered to win one of 25 prize packages.

"I bought it because even if you lose, you get the chance to win a freezer full of beef and a grill," said May.

May plans to continue to buy tickets. "If the Lord wants you to win, you win," he said.
