Ben Goertz, Mr. Durham
The late Ben Goertz, owner of G & R Implement Co at Durham died Thursday in a hospital at Wichita. His death will leave a big void in the community where he was "Mr. Durham."
They say every small town has a nucleus of about three or four people who "get things done" and are the community leaders. At Durham, Ben Goertz had been on that short list for many years.
He and his wife, Anna Mae, were popular and willing workers in their church and he continued a long relationship with farmers of an expanded community. He was an implement dealer whose word was his bond.
He also had been active in the Lions Club, as a board member with Durham State Bank and remained interested and involved after the merger with Central National Bank.
Ben Goertz will be missed by Anna Mae, their three daughters and six grandchildren. He also will be sorely missed by the entire community.
