Bethel College singer places at NATS convention
Bethel College senior Bethany Joy Amstutz, rural Hillsboro, placed third in the upper college music theater division at the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) four-state regional convention Nov. 4 to 6 in Emporia.
In addition to Amstutz, sophomores Shawn Adrian Stobbe, Newton, and Caitlin Welch, Lawrence, advanced to the semifinal rounds. Stobbe advanced in the lower college music theater category, and Welch advanced in the sophomore women's category.
"These students represented Bethel very well with their talent and attitudes," said Kathryn Kasper, associate professor of music. "I'm proud of all those that participated."
Other Bethel students participating were freshmen Chelsea Danielle Chaffin, Lawrence; Kathryn Irene Duncan, Kansas City; Andrew John Findley, Coffeyville; and Daniel Peter Graber, Marion, S.D.
Each student prepared three songs including an aria, a foreign language art song, and an English art song for their audition. Christopher Shaw, Newton, was the accompanist.
Nearly 400 students from colleges in Kansas, Wyoming, Colorado and Nebraska competed at the event.
