Bethesda Home receives foundation grant

Bethesda Home, Goessel, recently received a $1,000 matching grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation to be applied toward the purchase and installation of handicapped accessible automatic doors for two entrances to the home. These new doors allow residents, family members, staff, and guests easy access to the peaceful, serene surroundings of the Bethesda Butterfly Garden, Assisted Living apartments, and the nursing home.

"I am pleased to award this matching gift to Bethesda Home on behalf of the Wal-Mart Foundation for this project. Bethesda involved the community in raising the rest of the funds to pay for these doors and Wal-Mart Foundation likes to support those non-profit organizations who work hard at meeting the needs in their community," said Shane Meier, General Manager of the Wal-Mart Super Center in Newton.

Bethesda Home raised the balance of over $6,200 to cover the cost of these doors with donations received from individuals and corporate sponsors of the 4th Annual Benefit Meal/Talent Show last spring that was co-sponsored with the Goessel Lions Club.

"Bethesda provides so much to our community," said Wilbert Schmidt, Lions Club member. "As club members, we want to help where we can in serving others."

"Bethesda is grateful for the support of all individual and corporate donors that made this project possible. This gift from Wal-Mart provided the final dollars needed to complete this project, and we appreciate their partnership with us in meeting the needs of our community," said Pete Flaming, director of development at Bethesda.

Bethesda Home is a Medicare/ Medicaid certified nursing home/ retirement community providing a full continuum of care including 27 independent living units, 10 Assisted Living apartments, and 57 nursing care beds including a 12 bed Special Care Unit for those suffering from Alzheimer's disease and other dementia.
