Bethesda Home receives gift from sand volleyball tourney

Bethesda Home, Goessel, received a gift of $1,000 from the participants and sponsors of the 8th Annual Threshing Days Sand Volleyball Tournament held at West Branch Park in Goessel.

"Bethesda is very grateful for this gift and is very appreciative of the intergenerational support of Bethesda's ministry shown by the participants and sponsors of this tournament," said Pete Flaming, director of development at Bethesda Home.

The tournament, co-directed by two local volunteers, Jason Peters and Patrick Flaming, features three divisions (women, men and coed) and draws participants from area communities and from across the state. This year the tournament hosted 15 teams with 72 participants.

"It has been exciting to host this tournament for the past eight years and to see the quality of players that it attracts. We have had teams from as far away as Kansas City and Manhattan and a lot of good local area teams. It's just a good wholesome, fun, family event for all ages, and it feels good to give the proceeds to a worthy cause in our community," said Jason and Pat.

"We have also been very pleased with the support from our corporate sponsors who make this event possible," they added.

More information about the tournament can be seen on the tournament web site www.home.earthlink.net/~sandvb.

Proceeds from this tournament have generated over $3,600 in gifts to Bethesda Home over the past several years for projects that have benefited Bethesda residents and the community at large.

"Some of these funds from past years have gone toward resident care needs and some have gone toward the lighted walking paths provided on the Bethesda campus that are enjoyed by the residents and the entire community - a way of Bethesda giving back to the community," noted Pete Flaming.

Bethesda Home is a Medicare/ Medicaid certified nursing home/ retirement community providing a full continuum of care including 27 independent living units, 10 assisted living apartments, and 57 nursing care beds including a 12-bed special care unit for those suffering from Alzheimer's disease and other dementia.
