As district play begins this week for eight-man football, the Bluebirds find themselves with a 4-0 undefeated record.

The Bluebirds traveled Friday to Rosalia to meet the Flinthills Mustangs and came home with a 55-38 victory.

It was a battle for one half, but the Bluebirds took a commanding lead in the third quarter, and the junior varsity players gained experience in the fourth quarter.

Goessel scored a touchdown early in the game and led 14-8 at the half.

The Bluebirds scored 33 unanswered points in the third quarter when the defense played well and the offense was running smooth.

Flinthills was able to get more points on the board in the fourth quarter but the Bluebirds held on to their fourth victory of the season.

Goessel (4-0) plays at Burrton (1-3) Friday in the first game of the eight-man, Division I, District 5 playoffs.

Several state rankings now have the Bluebirds among the top-10 teams.

The next home game for the Bluebirds will be a district game Oct. 5 with Little River, and the game also will determine the Heart of America eight-man championship since the two schools are the only members of the league.
