After netting just two points in the first quarter Feb. 12, Ell Saline girls' basketball came to life and outscored Goessel High School in the final three quarters.
Goessel led 7-2 and 16-13 at the first two breaks, but Ell Saline had a strong third quarter with a 9-2 run to begin the second half, and the Bluebirds never retook the lead.
Ell Saline won the game by a final score of 39-31.
Leading the way for the Bluebirds were Kendra Flaming, 13 points and seven rebounds, Karis Janzen seven points, Jennifer Raymond six points and five steals, and Aspen Frey five points.
Goessel also lost a disappointing battle Friday night with Canton-Galva, 40-15.
The scoring in the second half for the Bluebirds amounted to eight points and the Eagles took advantage of Goessel's poor shooting percentage to lead at all the breaks 8-4, 16-7, 28-15, and 40-15.
Raymond and Flaming each had six points, Janzen two points and six rebounds, and Harvey one point.
The Bluebirds played host Tuesday to 1-14 Hamilton in the 1A Regional.
The winner of that game will face 9-11 White City Friday.
The championship game will be Saturday evening.
