Bluebird girls win a big one, by one

After nipping Class 3A Remington by one point Friday, the Goessel girls were expecting two tough games at home this week.
After hosting Ell-Saline on Tuesday, Goessel plays at Flint Hills Thursday, and at Canton-Galva Friday.
Goessel came into this week's play with a 7-9 overall record, and was 4-4 in league play.
In one of the highlights of the season, the Bluebirds defeated Remington at home, 44-43.
Goessel got off to a slow start, but then energized to build an eight-point lead at the end of the third period.
The Broncos made a desperate attempt to dissolve Goessel's lead, but the margin was just enough as the Bluebirds pulled away with the one-point win.
Seniors Courtney Berkholz and Kory Hiebert led the Bluebirds with 14 points each. Rinda Duerksen came back from an injury to hit nine points, Aspen Frey five, and Kylee Nikkel two points.
On Jan. 30, Goessel lost to Moundridge 47-33.
The Bluebird girls trailed by nine at halftime and could not cut that deficit.
Senior Trenae Wilson led the Bluebird scoring with seven points, Hiebert six, Katie Flaming five, Frey five, Berkholz four, Nikkel four, and Jennifer Raymond two points.
