The Goessel golf team participated in the varsity meet hosted by Sedgwick at the North Newton Public Golf Course. Coach Kemling took four seniors and two juniors to this meet.
"This is easily our best meet of the season," he said. The four seniors led the team with the best scores as Kent Peters shot an 86 followed closely by Kelcy Voth at 88. Tyler Huntley finished with a 95, and Dustin Spoonemore shot a 101 to give the Bluebirds a team score of 370. Juniors Jeremy Voth scored a 103, and Chris Voth shot 114.
Peters finished with a 7th place medal and K.Voth earned the 10th place medal. Goessel finished in fifth place as a team, just ten strokes behind Sedgwick and two strokes behind Ell Saline.
At Pretty Prairie, Goessel suffered from the tall native grass that is used as the rough.
"Peters shot a respectable 94, but our team scores show that we did not adjust to the course conditions," said Kemling.
Following Peters on the team were Huntley 101, K. Voth 104, J. Voth 114, Spoonemore 128 and Evan Janzen 154.
The JV golf team played at the Halstead Course for nine holes and got some experience for some of the newest members of the team. Tyler Huntley scored a 43 and earned the 4th place medal. Other scores from Goessel were Chris Voth 56, Evan Esau 58, Jake Unruh 61, Lena Hoermann 73, and Kevin Franzen 84. Goessel finished fifth out of nine teams.
