Bluebird netters rack up 22nd win years ago
Goessel volleyball wins 22nd match
The Goessel High School volleyball team accumulated two more wins on Tuesday. Against Sedgwick, the Bluebirds prevailed 15-7, 15-6. In the final match against Ell-Saline, Goessel won 15-0, 15-3.
"We need to fine-tune some things to carry us into post-season play," coach Sandy Banman said. "We are improving on our serves."
Goessel missed only one serve in each match. Their season record is now 22-2 and their Heart of America league record is 9-2, with losses coming against Inman and Moundridge.
Goessel will play the last match of the regular season at home Oct. 15 with Peabody and Trinity.
The HOA league tournament will be Oct. 19.
Junior high team wins at Burrton
Lightning shortened the junior high football game at Goessel with Burrton, but the Bluebirds had a commanding lead at that point, and the game was called with a final score of 52-14.
Travis Buller had 102 yards rushing, 30 yards receiving and three touchdowns to lead the Bluebird offense. Tanner Dickerson caught two passes and scored touchdowns on each catch. Jordan Voth and Kurtis Duerksen each scored one touchdown.
Garrett Hiebert threw for two touchdowns, and Brett Goerzen connected on a pass for an extra point, as both players scored PATs of their own.
Goessel will.be at home today with Word of Life from Wichita with both volleyball and football games.

Harvey County East Park was the site of last Thursday's cross country meet.
Evan Fast picked up an eighth place medal in the junior varsity race with a time of 20:10. The fastest time from the Bluebird varsity came from Lance Hiebert at 19:11; Kent Peters followed with 20:01; Jeremy Voth, 20:16; and Peter Goerzen 20:35. Jennifer Schmidt ran in the varsity girls' race and placed 15th. Linessa Duerksen finished first in the junior varsity race followed by teammate Theresia Hoelzl at sixth.
