The Goessel High School cross country team participated in the Marion meet on Tuesday. On a perfect day for running, four of the eight runners earned medals.

Eric Ursolwski paced the Bluebirds with a 17:12 finish and a third place medal in the varsity race. Evan Fast came in 19th (18:44), Zach Plenert 26th (19:12) and Lance Hiebert 31st (19:30) out of 67 runners. Freshman Nathan Amstutz claimed his first medal with a second place finish in the junior varsity race and a time of 19:48.

The girls ran together and all medalled. Jennifer Schmidt earned her first medal of the season and finished the race in 13:40 in 15th place in the varsity division. Freshmen Tricia Fensky and Janessa Wedel finished second and third respectively in the junior varsity division.

"We are having a great season," said Coach Bontrager. "During the early part of the season, I let the freshmen run in the junior varsity races."

"Later in the season, we will need everyone to run in the varsity division in order to compete as a team," he said.

The Goessel team will run next at the Berean meet today at the Harvey County East Park.
