Bluebirds crush Wichita Trinity

Taking care of business seems to be the best way to describe the Goessel High School football team for its third game of the season.
The coaches had little information on Wichita Trinity Academy, but the Goessel team dominated the game Friday on a cool, windless night in Goessel.
The Bluebirds received the opening kickoff and methodically marched down field and punched the ball into the end zone on a six-yard plunge by Dustin Peterson.
Kendall Voth caught a pass from Austin Unruh for the extra points.
On its next possession, Goessel wasted no time getting into the end zone again. An Unruh fake handoff to a running back, freed up Travis Fensky and a completed pass went for 28 yards.
Kurtis Duerksen sacked the quarterback for a 13-yard loss near the end of the first period to keep up strong Bluebird defensive play.
On the first play of the second quarter, Craig Banman skirted around the right side of the line, following a good block from Voth, and scored on a 26-yard run.
Voth received a pass for the extra points and Goessel led 22-0.
Fensky scored again with six minutes, 18 seconds to play in the second quarter, and Banman kicked the extra point giving the Bluebirds a commanding 29-0 lead.
Duerksen, Grady Stultz, and Nathan Walker plugged holes in the line, while Cameron Stulz, Weston Hiebert, and the Bluebird backfield snuffed any sustained drives that the Knights tried to accomplish.
Banman caught another Unruh pass for a 10-yard touchdown and Fensky crossed the goal line for the extra points giving the Bluebirds a lead of 37-0.
With 13 seconds remaining in the half, the Bluebirds were on the Knights' 14-yard line.
A perfect snap from Bryant Miller allowed Banman to kick a 31-yard field goal, the first of the season. The Bluebirds went into halftime with a 40-0 lead.
Trinity Academy came out more aggressive in the second half and stopped the Bluebirds on their first offensive drive of the half.
With 2:01 to play in the third period, Unruh ran toward the right sideline and then launched a pass down field and toward the left sideline. Banman was waiting for the pass, as Knight defenders were all over him.
The completion was still made, and went for 55 yards and another touchdown.
Using the eight-man mercy rule, the game ended in the third period with a score of 46-0.
The Bluebirds (3-0) will play Friday at Flint Hills-Rosalia High School (3-0).
