The Goessel boys' basketball team lost to Little River and Inman this week in Heart of America League games.

Friday, the Bluebirds hosted the Teutons, and the game was close midway through the third quarter.

Three pointers by Nick Peters and Aaron Stehman brought the Bluebirds within two of Inman 25-27.

Inman then went on a 12-0 run, scoring on nearly every possession while Goessel went cold.

The Bluebirds scratched their way back within nine points several times in the fourth quarter, but Inman was able to hold off Goessel's attack for the rest of the game.

Senior Aaron Stehman had a season high 22 points with three three-pointers, five assists and nine-of-nine shooting from the free throw line.

Nicholas Peters scored 10, Tyler Schroeder chipped in four, and Ryan Janzen had three points and three blocked shots. Josh Schmidt had two points and six rebounds, and Justin Fensky, Travis Buller, and Garrett Hiebert had two points each.

As a team the Bluebirds went 12 of 13 from the free throw line and cut their turnovers to 12 for the game.

Tuesday at Little River, the Bluebirds trailed 23-29 at half-time but cut the deficit in the third quarter only to have the Redskins open the gap in the fourth quarter for a final score of 67-56.

Goessel was 9 of 13 from the free throw line, while Little River was 22 of 30 from the stripe. The Bluebirds out rebounded the Redskins 25-22 and forced Little River into 14 turnovers, but the Redskins hit an efficient 60 percent of field goal attempts to seal the victory.

Fensky scored 11 points, and Janzen tossed in 11 points and eight rebounds. Jordan Voth put in 10 points, Peters and Buller had seven each, Stehman scored five points with eight assists, Schmidt had four points and seven rebounds, and Schroeder scored one point.

After this week's action, the varsity record for Goessel is 2-6 overall and 0-4 in the Heart of America League.

"We will get this season turned around," coach Justin Coup said.

The Bluebirds played at Remington on Tuesday and will play at Central Christian on Friday and then play in the Canton Galva Tournament the week of the Jan. 19.
