Bluebirds stung by Sylvan Grove

Goessel's football season began with a first quarter struggle in an opening game loss, 46-18 at Sylvan Grove. "From the 2nd quarter on, we gave them a very hard fought game," coach Justin Coup said.

Goessel trailed 16-0 at the end of the first quarter. The three Bluebird touchdowns all came on pass plays.

Aaron Stehman connected with Ryan Janzen and Josh Schmidt for TD's, and Stehman was on the receiving end for a touchdown thrown by freshman Garrett Hiebert.

Dylan Buller carried the ball 15 times for a total of 29 yards, and Stehman ran for 47 yards on 11 attempts.

The Bluebirds recovered three Sylvan Grove fumbles, but had two passes of their own intercepted.

Sophomore Justin Fensky averaged 35 yards on three punts and averaged 45 yards on three kick-offs.

Because Goessel played tough to the end of the game, Coach Coup showed his optimism, "The opportunity for a very successful season is there."

The Bluebirds will host Chase on Friday.
