Bluejay track team competes at Bethany

The Tabor track and field team appeared in its first outdoor meet of the season March 13 in cold, rainy weather in Lindsborg.

With no team scores being kept, the Lady Bluejays snagged three first place finishes and a quintet of runners-up.

Highlighting the men's team were four top finishes, two second place finishes, and three for third place.

In women's action, Angie Jost ran a first place time of 13:08 in the 3000-meter steeplechase.

Ashley Scherrer leaped a meet-high five feet to tie Bethany's Hannah Wagner. Scherrer also jumped a second-place 34'8" in the triple jump.

Tamara McCarren had a progressive day, claiming one first place finish and a pair of second places.

McCarren heaved the shot put a meet-best 39'7", taking second in discus and hammer throw with respective tosses of 128'9" and 121'2".

For the men, Landon Goertzen brought home a gold medal with a 1:59.6 finish in the 800-meter run.

Tabor's other two first place finishes came from the respective duo of Trent Voth and Clint Reed in the 110-meter hurdles and the high jump at 15.8 and 6'4", respectively.

Reed had to fight off an effort from teammate Matt Rorabaugh, who tied for third at 6'2".

Brian Lightner finished third in the long jump with a leap of 19'11", while taking third with a 400-meter hurdle time of 59.7.

Caleb Stanton finished runner-up in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.6.

Lightner, Goertzen, and Stanton merged with Jeff Anenson to snag a first-place finish in the 4x400 meter relay at 3:26.7 to round out the finishes for Tabor.

The Bluejays travel Saturday to McPherson for a 10:30 a.m. meet.
