Lady Bluejays trip Falcons for first place

Tabor volleyball team in first place in KCAC

One team stood in the Lady Bluejays way for sole possession of first place in the KCAC Saturday at Hillsboro, one that embarrassed them Oct. 11 in Wichita.

But the Bluejays got their due, becoming the front-runner in the league with a win over the Friends Falcons in sweeping fashion.

The Bluejays avenged the first half debacle with 32-30, 30-19, and 30-21 victories.

The sweep of the Falcons lifts Tabor to 13-3 in the KCAC.

Rachelle Regier blocked five shots while the Kroeker sisters, Angela and Shannon, combined for 25 kills. Sara McAllister led with 43 assists and Staci Whitcomb and Jill Hein added 19 and 13 digs, respectively.

Tabor had to fight off Ottawa in four sets two days earlier.

The Bluejays started slow, tumbling in the opener 30-20.

Tabor bounced back to win the next three by 30-28, 30-26, and 30-27 margins.

Whitcomb and Laura Campbell led the Bluejays defensively with 22 and 15 kills, respectively. Whitcomb also added four blocks. McAllister had 59 assists.

Regier sparked her blocking streak against the Braves, rejecting a game-high eight shots.

Tabor had another productive day with digs paced by Angela Kroeker's 22. Whitcomb followed with 20, McAllister chipped in 17 and Jill Hein contributed 15.

The Bluejays close out the regular season at home tonight against their archrival Bethel Lady Threshers in a 7 p.m. start.

Tabor traveled Tuesday to McPherson for a face-off with the Lady Bulldogs. No results were available at publication time.
