Dennis Boldt, Hillsboro High School head track and field coach, has been voted 3A track and field coach of the year and coach of the year for all cross country/track and field classifications in the state by Kansas Coaches Association (KCA) members.

"Good kids make you look good," said Boldt when asked about the awards. "It's a pretty big honor, and you don't get an honor like that without having a good track team and good assistant coaches."

Boldt is assisted by Don Penner, throws coach; Mike Jilka, hurdles coach; Nathan Hiebert, jumps and javelin coach; Keli Chisholm, jumps coach; and Stuart Holmes, pole vault coach.

Hillsboro's track program encompasses grades seven through 12 and the coaching staff is combined for middle school and high school. According to Boldt, there are more than 100 athletes competing in the program.

Boldt graduated from Tabor College and has been teaching and coaching at Hillsboro High School for 15 years.

Boldt was awarded the KCA state award at a clinic in August 2004 and received the award for KCA 3A boys program coach of the year Jan. 8 at the coaches conference meeting in Junction City.
