Boldt named National Track Coach of the Year
Hillsboro High School head track coach Dennis Boldt was recognized March 17 in an assembly at Hillsboro High School as National Boys' Track Coach of the Year.
Gary Musselman, director of Kansas State High School Activities Association, presented Boldt with the award.
Earlier in the school year, Boldt was selected as 3A boys' coach of the year by Kansas Track and Cross Country Coaches Association. The Kansas Coaches Association also selected him as Kansas Boys' Track Coach of the Year.
Each coach of the year selection is nominated for the National Federation of High School Athletics Regional award, and Boldt was selected Midwest Regional Boy's Coach of the Year. The Midwest region includes Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota.
After he was named the boys' Midwest Coach of the Year, Boldt was eligible for the national honor. Criteria for NHFS regional and state awards include coaching background, career record, offices held in local, state, and national coaches' associations, service clubs and organizations in school, involvement in other coaching activities, membership in professional and coaching associations; and a written philosophy of athletics.
"I'm overwhelmed with the national honor," said Boldt. "I'm honored to represent track coaches across the nation and especially in this area."
In Boldt's 15-year tenure at HHS, his track teams have won three boys' state championships and the girls have placed second at state two times. The track teams have 51 individual league champions and six team championships.
