Boys JV team to play in tourney championship
Hillsboro High School hosted a junior varsity boys' basketball tournament Saturday. The JV Trojans advanced to the winner's bracket with a 44-24 victory over Halstead and a 55-41 victory over Marion. Hillsboro will play Inman at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Brown Gym for the championship.
In the game against Halstead, Tim Funk led the team with 10 points. Nate Holmes and Aaron Stepanek each scored nine points; Tyler Kaufman, six; Darren Enns, four; and Troy Frick and Justin Moore, three points each.
In the game against Marion, Holmes led the team with 17 points. Kaufman and Frick each scored nine points; Stepanek, five; Enns, four; Adam Scheele and Moore, two each.
The junior varsity boys' basketball team defeated Sterling Friday 68-35. Enns led the team with 14 points. Fast and Kaufman scored nine points each; Scheele and Weibert, eight points each; Fadenrecht, six points; Frick, Holmes, Hughbanks, Stepanek, Moore, McIntosh, and Funk, two points each.
On Feb. 1, the JV defeated Halstead 60-34. Fast and Hughbanks scored 10 points each. Frick and Funk scored seven points; Enns, six; Holmes, five; McIntosh, four; Moore, Weibert, and Kaufman, three each; and Fadenrecht, two points.
On Jan. 28, the JV defeated Marion 46-37. Frick was leading scorer with 11 points. Scheele and Fast scored seven points each; Weibert, six; Funk and Kaufman, four points each; Moore, three; and Holmes and Hughbanks, two each.
Freshmen boys
Friday, the freshmen boys defeated Sterling 62-41. Gavin Serene led the team with 15 points. Aaron Stepanek scored 13; Ben Heyen, 11; Dylan Porter, 10; Mitchell Koop, five; and Tyrell Blecha and John Christian, four points each.
On Feb. 1, the freshmen team lost to Halstead, 60-27. Heyen led the team with 15 points. Serene scored seven; Porter, five; Grant Schneider, four; and Koop, three.
