The Goessel boys defeated Mankato 77-41 with a strong team defense and several easy baskets. The Bluebirds outscored Mankato in every quarter, and never trailed in the game. Goessel led the breaks by 11, 24, 30, with a final margin victory of 36 points.

On Saturday, the Bluebirds went cold in the last of the second quarter to see Minneapolis take a 13-point lead at halftime. Goessel came storming back in the first five minutes of the third quarter to take a 45-44 lead.

The Goessel group put forth tremendous effort to cut the Lion lead to three with 19 seconds to play, but the Bluebirds lost the game 74-69 against a strong 3A team.

Scoring for Goessel was J. Voth with 26 points; Peters, 21; Plenert, 10; J. Goertzen, eight; and Stehman with four.

On Tuesday, Inman fell to the Bluebird attack as the Bluebirds tortured the Teutons from long range and from the free throw line. Goessel boys hit a school record of 11 three pointers as a team to win by a comfortable margin of 87-64. Goessel blew open the game in the third quarter outscoring Inman 29-10.

Peters hit seven threes, giving him a total of 34 points. Others scoring were Goertzen with 17, Plenert, 13, J. Voth, nine, Stehman, seven, B. Schmidt and Janzen with three each, and J. Schmidt with one.

"We must have played very well to beat Inman, in spite of our 23 turnovers," Coach Coup said.
