Brick of marijuana recovered from vehicle

A driver was stopped by Deputy Larry Starkey at 11:10 p.m. Feb. 25 on U.S.-56/77 and mile marker 321 for speeding. The driver did not have identification and was driving a car rented by another person. When asked for a consent search, it was denied. Starker smelled the odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. The individual was told a dog was going to sniff the car. At that the driver fled the scene. A bag was thrown from the car a short distance from the scene. A brick of marijuana weighing approximately one pound was recovered. The driver wrecked the car in Herington and abandoned it. On Feb. 27, the driver voluntarily came forth and was arrested. Value of the marijuana is placed at $1,600.

Unknown individuals used existing cattle panels to catch and remove two cows from a pasture at 1582 Falcon, Hillsboro sometime between Dec. 29 and Feb. 24, reports Deputy Rollin Schmidt. The cows, valued at $2,000, were property of Maynard R. Knepp, 1582 Falcon, Hillsboro.

At 8 a.m. Feb. 22 an individual riding a Hillsboro school bus on U.S.-56 at 190 struck Natasha McIrvin, 555 McIrvin Drive, Lehigh, in the face several times. Undersheriff Randal Brazil states the individual was arrested and transported to Junction City juvenile detention city.

At 7:30 p.m. Feb. 23, an individual pumped six dollars of gas from a pump at Johnson's General Store, Florence. The driver left without paying for the gas, stated Deputy Mike Vineski.

Sometime between 8 a.m. Feb. 19 and 10 a.m. Feb. 21, an individual took approximately 75 pills from a prescription medication container belonging to Tamara L. Suffield, 301 Adams, Lincolnville. The pills were valued at $125, states Deputy Vineski.
