Bull Durham Festival Saturday at Durham

The Bull Durham Festival is slated for Saturday in the town of Durham. The day will begin at 8 a.m., with garage sales taking place at 10 different locations in town. Maps are available at the shelter house in the park. Free coffee and cinnamon rolls will be sold by Home Circle at the shelter house.

There will be vendor booths selling candles, alpaca goods, homemade mixes, woodcrafts, scrapbooking and stamping materials, pumpkins, cinnamon coated nuts, mums, garden produce, and caramel apples.

A cowboy lunch will be served that includes smoked ribs and brisket, baked beans, potatoes, butterhorn rolls, and cobbler cooked in Dutch ovens over an open fire. Serving will begin at 11 a.m. The cost of the meal is $8 and half plates $6. The Lions Club will be selling drinks.

At 10 a.m., children can enter the bicycle and pet parade. Following the parade, children under 12 will be able to paint a pumpkin at no cost.

Entertainment will begin at 11 a.m. and will feature the Alex Stuchlik Polka Band, the high school jazz band, the high school men's quartet, Richard Dirks will play some selections on his harmonica, and Yvonne Cushenberry will sing.

The apple pie contest will highlight the afternoon. There will be three divisions, two-crust, streusel crust, and novelty. There will be a top winner in each division and a grand champion winner. Cheryl Jost will be the judge, assisted by Peni Ens. Pie entries should be at the shelter house by noon.
