Car show brings 53 cars years ago

The sixth annual Route 56 Classic Cruisers car show was deemed a success Saturday with 53 cars and seven motorcycles on display on Memorial Park Circle.

The show was a part of Hillsboro's 120th Birthday, Family Folk Festival, and All-School Reunion.

The 2004 car show results were: long distance, Chad Ensz of Dallas, Texas, 2000 Chevrolet Corvette; ladies' choice, Terrie Cock, 1958 Chevrolet Corvette; under 21, Josh Lloyd, 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle; high school, Richie Grace, 1975 Chevrolet Malibu Laguna.

Special interest, Dale and Judy King, 1951 Studebaker; club choice, Mark Shepard, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle 454; best Mopar, Mike and Scott Garrison, 1970 Dodge Charger 500; best Ford, John Saindon, 1964 Ford Falcon Sprint; best GM, Kenneth Nightingale, 1936 Chevrolet 1/2-ton pickup; best of show, J.D. and Annie Wallerius of Hutchinson, 1957 Chevrolet Bel-Air.

Top 10 honors went to 1935 Terraplane, Mick and Dody Franklin; 1966 Buick Riviera, Tom Voth; 1957 Chevrolet Bel-Air sedan, John Richards; 1957 Chevrolet Corvette, Stan Schmidt; 1940 Ford Coupe, Larry Ashley; 1968 Chevrolet Camaro, Mark Cotton; 1931 Chevrolet five-window pickup, Jon Wilson; 1972 Chevrolet Nova, Greg Renecker; 1957 Chevrolet two-door, Kim Baumann; and 1931 Chevrolet Coupe, Bud Lovelady.

In the motorcycle category, the top vote-getter was Kyle Willhite's 2004 Big Dog. Best of show honors went to Jake Wiebe for his 2000 Indian.
