Central Park, Marion is setting for Art in the Park

The 29th annual Art in the Park will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 15 at Central Park, Marion.

More than 150 vendors will be coming from Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Texas, Florida, and Tennessee to exhibit and sell their crafts.

Shuttle buses will run about every 15 minutes beginning at 6 a.m. from the city baseball complex on Eisenhower Drive, and Marion Die and Fixture on West Main Street. This free service is a convenience for out-of-town visitors and local residents.

Ten $20 gift certificates will be given away at 4 p.m. and fair-goers must be present to win. The certificates are valid at any booth until the close of the show.

New items include "pond soap," a children's favorite where a colorful goldfish magically appears; limited edition original T-shirts and petroglyph books; Asian-style baby carriers; scrapbook items and themed board books; shawls woven by hand on a loom; and bulletin boards made of old barn windows.

There also will be unique metal artwork that includes fireplace screens and poker room signs.

The food court will be local vendors with many being groups raising money for various local causes.

"One thing that makes Marion's Art in the Park unique is that it's in the park where there's shade," organizer Margo Yates said. There also are playground areas available for children.
