Chamber Notes
By CHRISTY WULF
Director, Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce
The chamber annual dinner had a fabulous turnout! More than 200 community and chamber members made reservations for this once-a-year event. I even had the chamber director from Derby contact me to find out what our secret was. Thanks to everyone who came to the event, decorated a table, or helped make this dinner possible. It takes all of us to make these things work.

I have had some concerns regarding our chamber business of the year, Golden Heritage Foods, and the mention of a large out of town purchase. Although there were out of town purchases made for the Katrina Relief, four truckloads of supplies for the effort were purchased in Hillsboro. Regardless of your opinion on how it was done, the effort itself still stands as a job well done.

It has come to our attention that a possible telephone fraud has been taking place in the area. An individual identifying himself as an AT&T technician has made calls saing he is testing the phone lines. He says that to complete the test you should touch nine (9), zero (0), followed by the pound (#) sign and then hang up. According to the phone company, by pushing 90#, you give the requesting individual access to your telephone line, allowing them to place long distance calls billed to your number.
Do not press 90# for anyone.

Chamber of commerce committees are open to all chamber members. In last month's newsletter, I mentioned that we have just set up the committees for 2007, and have new goals and ideas for the year. Committees are Membership, Business Assistance, Promotions, and Fund-raising. Put your talents to use making Hillsboro and the chamber better, join a chamber committee. Everyone is welcome and we all have something to offer.

A customer sent an order to a distributor for a large amount of goods totaling a great deal of money. The distributor noticed that the previous bill hadn't been paid. The collections manager left a voice-mail for them saying, "We can't ship your new order until you pay for the last one." The next day the collections manager received a collect phone call, "Please cancel the order. We can't wait that long."

Don't miss the chamber Legislative Coffee March 17.
