Chamber office hires new director

Hillsboro resident Megan Kilgore has been hired as the director of the Hillsboro Management Board, HMB president Darrel Driggers confirmed Tuesday.

Kilgore fills the position formerly held by Carol Wiebe, a longtime promoter of Hillsboro. Wiebe resigned from the position Oct. 21, following the resignation of administrative assistant Rhonda Toal.

Both worked in the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce office, which serves as the headquarters for several city promotional organizations. These organizations include the Convention and Visitors Bureau, Hillsboro Development Corporation, Arts and Crafts Association, and Marion County Fair Board.

All of these groups are governed under the broad umbrella of the HMB.

Driggers declined to comment on when Kilgore would begin work, but according to the chamber office, she'll start her duties on the job during the second week of December.

Driggers also declined to answer further questions about the new hiring at this time.

Attempts to reach Megan Kilgore before press time were unsuccessful.

Kilgore is no stranger to the public sector — before being hired by the HMB, she worked for the Kansas Department of Commerce and Housing.

Her office was located in Topeka before she and her husband, Tim, moved to Hillsboro in August. Tim began work as the ag teacher and FFA sponsor at Hillsboro High School this fall. Both are graduates of Kansas State University.
