Changes occur in Hillsboro schools

Staff writer

There are lots of teachers shifting positions in the Hillsboro school system for the 2004-05 school year.

Seven of those moves are taking place in the elementary school. Mike Jilka has moved from second to fourth grade; Lenna Knoll, from fourth to third grade; Rod Just, from fifth to first grade; Michelle Goldsby, from second grade to Title I; Eilene Butler, from third to second grade; Michelle Berens, from first grade to kindergarten; and Charlene Driggers, from first grade to reading specialist.

"I just felt that a few changes needed to be made," said Evan Yoder, Hillsboro Elementary School principal. "I felt it would make our staff stronger."

Lenna Knoll taught third grade when she first started teaching in Wichita and expects the change to require a lot of extra planning to adjust to the change of levels.

"I've taught fourth grade for seven years and knew the curriculum very well. I'm really going to have to study the third grade curriculum," said Knoll.

The Hillsboro middle school and high school have fewer changes for the upcoming year. Darrel Knoll has moved from eighth grade English and computer up to high school English, Sharon Loewen has moved from eighth grade math to high school math, and Michelle Melton has changed from half-time at the high school to half-time at both the high school and middle schools.

"I'm looking forward to it," said Darrel Knoll. "It'll be a nice change of pace and a different challenge."
