Charles Hein, 55, died Sept. 19, 2003, at his home in Hillsboro.
Charles Leo Hein was born May 17, 1948, in Florence, to William and Catherine (Ruby) Hein.
He graduated from Marion High School and retired from AMPI as a freezer operator in 1996.
On Aug. 23, 1989, he married Sharon Eck at Miami, Okla.
Charlie was an avid sports fan who loved football, basketball, and baseball. He read extensively and was knowledgeable about sports and players. An L.A. Dodger fan, one of his prized possessions was an autograph of Sandy Kofax. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and rabbit hunting. Mostly, he enjoyed his family.
Survivors include his mother, Catherine Hein of Marion; wife, Sharon Hein of Hillsboro; stepsons, Peter Eck and wife Amy of Phillipsburg and Christopher Eck and wife Colleen of Coralville, Iowa; stepdaughter, Jada Russell and husband Clint of Topeka; three brothers, Vernon Hein of Roseburg, Ore., Richard Hein of Stillwell, and Walter Hein of Marion; four sisters, Phyllis Landis and Linda Brewer of Marion, Laura Wayman of Hutchinson, and Catherine Ann Camien of Emporia; and two grandchildren.
The rosary was recited at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Zeiner Funeral Home. A memorial service followed at 10 a.m. The rosary was led by Richard Hein, and the service was officiated by Pastor John Ratzlaff.
Honorary casket bearers were David Baliel, Peter Eck, Christopher Eck, Clint Russell, Bruce Bartel, and Brian Hein.
Inurnment followed the service at Marion Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established with Central Homecare and Hospice.
