Chili cook-off to spice up Holly Days celebration

Spicy-seasoning's greetings!

The third annual Holly Days kick-off for the holiday season in Hillsboro, to be held Nov. 25-26, will include a parade, a visit from Santa, a home tour — and a chili cook-off.

The Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce added the cooking competition to the event, which has "Christmas Dreams" as its theme this year.

Among the more traditional highlights of the event are the holiday parade at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 25, and the Christmas tree lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. Nov. 25. Those dreaming of a spice Christmas can start early Nov. 25 at the chili feed, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Main Street shops will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. There will be drawings and prizes, and sample holiday treats and recipes.

Sponsors of the event include Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce, Embarq, Country Haven Inn, Quick Flick Radio Shack, Central National Bank, Hillsboro Arts & Crafts Association, Circle D, Ag Service, Ag Power, Hillsboro Industries, and Hillsboro State Bank.

The deadline is Nov. 17 for parade and chili cook-off entries. Applications are available at the chamber of commerce or participating businesses.
