Christian artist Bebo Norman to perform Wednesday
Tickets are $8 per person, available from alumni office
Following his successful debut with "Ten Thousand Days" and his sophomore national release "Big Blue Sky," Essential Records recording artist Bebo Norman emerges into the spotlight again, only this time more vulnerable in "Myself When I Am Real," which hit stores Sept. 10.
Norman will take a break from his 40-city Circa 2002 Fall Tour to perform an acoustic concert at Tabor College on Wednesday, Oct. 2, to kick off all Homecoming activities.
"I hope the concert itself is relational and conversational, and that it's not just a performance," Norman said in an exclusive interview with Tabor College. "Obviously, the crowd can't be a participant in terms of being onstage and singing with me, necessarily, but I hope (this is what) happens at shows: I hope people will participate emotionally and spiritually through the course of a concert."
Norman was featured on the cover of the August issue of CCM Magazine. His current radio single, "Great Light of the World," the first to be released off of Myself When I Am Real, comes after his first multi-format Top 10 radio hit, "Holy Is Your Name," from the second City on a Hill project, also released from Essential Records. The new recording paints a picture of his life, his longings and his struggles.
"It's pretty much as real a picture of me I can possibly give to people," he said. "I guess my goal with music is to be as vulnerable as I possibly can — not because I feel that's some 'martyr' thing to do — but just because I feel like that's what I'm supposed to do, to share my life with people in the best way that I know how."
But Norman, who deeply feels he was compelled and called to music ministry, is quick to say that it is only by God's grace that he continues to make music.
"I feel really honored and blessed and humbled by the fact that God has seen fit to use me to do anything, much less for him to seek me out and to change who I am and absolutely transform me with salvation," he said. "I think the thing that I realize more than anything else is that God is just a lot bigger than I am. I am a human being and I struggle and I fall on my face a lot
