Citizens State Banks to celebrate 100 years years ago

Few businesses can boast of 100 years of service, but that is what The Citizens State Banks of Moundridge, Canton, Goessel, Hesston, and McPherson are celebrating this month.

Each of The Citizens State Banks in Canton, Goessel, Hesston, Moundridge and McPherson is celebrating its 100 year anniversary with an invitation to the public to enjoy free food, chips, and drinks from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27.

According to Fred Schrag, President of The Citizens State Bank in Moundridge, "The Citizens State Bank has played an integral role in the growth and development of the communities that it serves. It has done so for 100 years by employing a strong capital base to assist customers in achieving their goals, whether in their personal lives or business investments.

"I want to thank all of the people in these communities that have and continue to support The Citizens State Bank. It is the people in the community that determine the success of the community."

Historical events point out how 100 years have resulted in many changes. In 1904 the automobile was just in its infancy and there were very few paved roads. The first airplane had just made its first short flight.

Over the following years The Citizens State Bank in Moundridge grew, and additional CSB banks were started in Canton, Goessel, Hesston, and then in 2004 the fifth CSB bank was installed in McPherson.

"I have seen The Citizens State Bank from the inside out for the last 37 years," said Kenneth J. Goering, Chairman and chief executive officer. "During this time the bank has grown substantially not just because who we are, but where we are. We have been recognized as one of the strongest banks in the country. However, our greatest asset is the community which we will serve for many more years to come."
