City adopts regulations for adult entertainment

Council approves bid for

north Main Street project

The City of Hillsboro now has zoning regulations for adult entertainment.

Hillsboro City Council approved the regulations at Tuesday's meeting. The regulations will allow adult entertainment but only within the city limits that meets specific criteria.

Specifically, adult entertainment is not allowed within 1,000 feet of any residence, church, park, school, library, playground, or swimming pool.

Other restrictions apply to the location and allowable activities.

The council also annexed approximately 20 acres in the city limits. The property is located north of Park Village.

A bid for the North Main Street project was approved by the council at nearly $10,000 less than previous cost estimates.

Cost estimates for the project were $150,000. APAC-Kansas, Inc., accepted the city's negotiated price for the construction of the project with the bid of $141,884.

The council also approved engineering fees to Reiss & Goodness Engineers, Inc., in the amount of $13,246 related to the North Main Street project.

In other business:

— A buyer for the brick from the first Main Street project has been secured. A brick company has offered 15 cents per brick. The brick will be hauled and paid in $10,000 increments and will total between $70,000 and $100,000.

The city will retain 30,000 bricks for future use.

— Steve Garrett, city administrator, met with officials with the Army Corps of Engineers at Marion Reservoir regarding seasonal algae blooms. The Corps will monitor all lakes in the Tulsa district that provide drinking water.

— Striping on D Street will be completed when Main Street is striped.

— The city's insurance agent will be at the next council meeting to discuss the city's policy.

— A city employee safety meeting will be Tuesday. The emergency preparedness plan will be reviewed.

— Burbach Pools will be in Hillsboro on April 19 to talk with pool personnel.

— Vouchers in the amount of $73,549 were approved.

— A 10-minute executive session was held for attorney-client privilege. The meeting reconvened with no decisions.

The next regularly scheduled council meeting will be at 4 p.m. April 20 in city council chambers.
