City receives grant for airport improvements
The City of Hillsboro was among eight entities in north central Kansas to receive funding through the Kansas Airport Improvement Program.
The city will receive $99,000 in grant funds to construct a turnaround and expand a ramp, and $63,000 for runway lighting. The total project cost is estimated at $180,000 with the city's share being $18,000.
These projects are among 38 projects at 34 airports which will receive a total of $3.3 million in matching funds to address maintenance, runway, facility, and equipment needs.
Kansas Department of Transportation's Division of Aviation, which manages the program, received 104 project applications for projects totaling approximately $18 million.
Other area city or county-owned airports to receive grand funds were Abilene, Beloit, Ellsworth, Herington, Junction City, Lincoln, and Washington County.
