City sets requirements for sports facilities lease

Staff reporter

Hillsboro City Council approved criteria for use of city baseball/softball and tennis court facilities.

At Thursday's meeting, Hillsboro Recreation Commission Director Doug Sisk presented information regarding rental agreements of the city-owned facilities.

Facility rental charges for baseball or softball fields will be $20 per field per day. This fee includes one setup per field. Additional work on the fields is available at a $10 per hour rate.

Another charge of $10 per hour for site supervisors or maintenance during tournaments. If lights are needed, there will be a minimum charge of $20. There also will be a charge of $20 per hour for the lights and $15 per hour for a tournament director.

Additional fees are spelled out in the agreement regarding chalk, diamond dry, and additional preparation of the fields.

A $100 deposit is required to rent the tennis courts with proof of insurance. Tennis courts are $50 per day for all eight courts. Hillsboro REC, USD 410, and Tabor College tennis events will take precedence over all requests.

REC will be responsible for preparing playing areas and opening and cleaning bathrooms.

Concessions may be sold at the complex as long as REC is notified within three weeks of events. Twelve percent of all net profits will be paid to the REC.

After the facility is used, all trash must be removed and the facilities "returned" in the same condition as when rented.

In other business:

— City consulting engineer Bob Privatera distributed copies of Hillsboro Business Park plat. Cost estimates for development of the subdivision was $1,054,000 with concrete streets. Water and sewer installation was an additional $220,000.

The council determined that construction will not be completed until there is a buyer.

— Citywide cleanup is April 14-18. City administrator Larry Paine reminded residents that trash will only be picked up on the normal trash pickup day. All items must be placed at curbs.

White goods require special handling so residents must contact the city office for removal.

The next regular meeting will be at 4 p.m. April 15 in the city building.
