Claude Unruh
Claude Unruh, 93, of Montezuma and formerly of Durham died May 20, 2003, at Bethel Home Inc. in Montezuma where he had been a resident for the last three years.
The son of Fred P. and Lena (Voth) Unruh, he was born Dec. 1, 1909, in Marion County.
On June 14, 1931, he married Della Esther Becker. She died on June 4, 1965. On Jan. 28, 1966, he married Leah Nichols at Copeland.
He was a member of the Morning Star Congregation of the Church of God in Christ Mennonite in Tampa. He was a retired farmer and minister.
Survivors include his wife Montezuma; sons, Gary Unruh and wife Lila of Durham, Willard Unruh and wife Barbara of Hesston; stepsons, Kenneth Nightengale and wife Ladean of Copeland, Bob Nightengale and wife Jul of Center, Colo., Willis Nightengale and wife Peggy of Texas, Devern Nightengale and wife Jeanette of Copeland; daughters, Alice Unruh of Moundridge, Lillian Wiebe and husband Ransom of Durham, Anita Schmidt and husband Kenneth of Montezuma; stepdaughters, Letha Loewen and husband Gene of Corning, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Geneva Nightengale of Brooksville, Miss.; 30 grandchildren and 65 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Della Unruh; stepson, Deloyd Nightengale; brothers, Herbert, Harley, Paul and Walter; sisters, Rhoda, Esther and Marie.
Funeral services were held May 24 at Morning Star Congregation of the Church of God in Christ Mennonite in Tampa with Ministers Bruce Dirks, Merlin Wiebe and Donald Koehn presiding. Burial was at Logan Cemetery in Tampa.
Memorials have been established at Bethel Home Inc. in Montezuma and Cottonwood Grove Christian School in Tampa.
