Community pride
Rain, rain go away, come again another day. That verse was on the minds of many Saturday during the Hillsboro Arts & Crafts Fair.
I was there. Partly because I had to cover it for the Star-Journal and partly because I'm always there — faithfully — every year.
And so were many others. Some driving a lot further than I did.
Hillsboro exhibitors and shoppers have had to endure quite a bit these past couple of years. Remember those strong winds at last year's crafts fair? Tents were flapping and merchandise was flying.
After months of preparation for the annual event, no one could predict the weather.
Kansas weather is anything but predictable. It was a beautiful day Friday and Sunday but Saturday certainly was not.
Through it all, local organizations selling food items stuck with it. Exhibitors made the best of it. And shoppers showed up and purchased items.
Yes, Hillsboro is a community with much to be proud.
Speaking of pride, how about Tabor College? President Nikkel sent a letter with free family passes to their Adams Street neighbors as a "thank you" for being patient during the reconstruction of the street and new construction of residence town houses.
The college didn't have to do it. No one was expecting it but the college leaders decided it was the right thing to do.
Yes, there is much to be proud of in Hillsboro.
