Council approves new CT scanner

Staff reporter

Hillsboro City Council signed lease documents Nov. 20 for new equipment at Hillsboro Community Medical Center.

Since the city owns the hospital equipment and provides funds for capital improvement purchases, the council is required to approve equipment purchases.

The new equipment that will be leased is a state-of-the-art, higher speed CT or CAT scanner.

With the new scanner, patients will have minimal exposure to radiation because of the higher speed and better resolution. The scans then can be electronically sent to radiologists or other physicians.

The council approved the lease.

— Mayor Delores Dalke reported that she attended the National League of Cities at New Orleans, La.

She attended two meetings that related to cities and colleges working together.

Other meetings she attended encouraged cities to protect areas around airport runways with appropriate zoning which would allow for future airport expansion.

Another tool to help the Hillsboro community was being able to guide families toward financial stability.

Dalke noted there are more foreclosures in Hillsboro than before and homelessness could become an issue.
