Council approves sewer repair
The Goessel City Council met June 17 at the civic center conference room.
Arlen Goertzen, public works director, showed the council video of the sewer lines that had some trouble spots from Cedar Street to the alley at Summit and Commercial. Mayer Specialty Services did the annual cleaning of 7,100 feet of sewer, video taping 1,284 feet.
The main problem is the condition of the manholes along that stretch of line and one joint that needs to be repaired. The estimated cost of repairing the joint is $1,000 and $4,200 for repairing four manholes.
The council voted 3-0 to repair the manholes and the joint.
The council voted 3-0 to allow Dana Garrison and Janis Cerullo, new residents at 300 S. Buller, to keep their three dogs. The couple provided the council with the signatures of most of their neighbors approving their keeping the dogs.
Goessel residents who want to shoot fireworks in the city limits need to fill out a permit by July 1. The permits may be picked up at the city office until June 25 or at Citizen's State Bank.
The council approved the budget/audit contract with Swindoll, Janzen, Hawk and Loyd for the year ending Dec. 31, 2004, for the audit and for the year ending 2006 to prepare the budget. The charge for budget preparation will not exceed $700, and expenses of the audit will not exceed $5,300.
Arlen Goertzen will begin spraying for mosquitoes as soon as there is a calm, dry evening. He will also fix the handrail on the Cedar Street walking bridge.
Anita Goertzen reported on a municipal leadership workshop that she attended on June 12 in Derby about Roberts Rules of Order and the Handbook for Effective.
KDHE is sending the city a copy of the loan agreement for the sewer project. The agreement will be reviewed by the city attorney and the council.
